Electricity Generation:
Geothermal
Geothermal is forecast to have a 5% compound annual growth rate between 2012 and 2018.
In 2011, 136 MW of geothermal capacity was added globally, resulting in $666 million in revenues. For 2012, the estimate is 300 MW of new capacity. The relatively long and costly timeline for geothermal power project development will limit the market to slow but steady growth in the short-term. Geothermal is forecast to have a 5% compound annual growth rate between 2012 and 2018. Countries with large available resource potential – such as Indonesia, the United States, the Philippines, and Kenya – will continue to lead development of this baseload renewable resource.
